Baloyi just wants to play football

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lucky Baloyi admits he took a gamble to leave the Premiership giants in search of regular first-team football for the upcoming season.

After joining Amakhosi in 2010 from Soweto Panthers as a teenager, the defensive midfielder only started 40 league games at the Soweto giants.

Baloyi revealed it's the first time in his professional career without a club during pre-season, but the 27-year-old holds no regrets over his decision - despite recently extending his contract until 2019.

"I'm no longer a youngster and I can't afford to sit without playing. So it was my decision to leave Chiefs," he told SowetanLIVE.

"I knew at a time when I renewed that there was still time because we still had a few months to go before the end of the season, but then nothing changed and I wasn't playing. I realised the chances of me playing next season are less.

"All I want is to play. It doesn't matter where I play. My agent is talking to other teams," he added.

"I've always had a team during pre-season since I started playing professional football in 2010, but I know my agent is looking for a new team that I can play for [regularly] next season."

Baloyi has featured 87 times in the Premiership for Chiefs and had a solitary loan spell with Moroka Swallows since making his debut in 2011.
